The conference will open with a special evening reception held in the Cloister of Rīga Cathedral (Doma baznīca) – a historic and atmospheric setting in the heart of Rīga’s Old Town. This unique architectural ensemble, dating back to the 13th century, once served as a place of contemplation for monks and remains one of the finest examples of medieval monastic architecture in the Baltics.
Surrounded by centuries-old stone arches and quiet inner courtyards, the Cloister offers a tranquil and reflective space for the opening of a congress dedicated to rural research. The serene setting invites participants to connect the past with the present, and provides a meaningful backdrop for conversations on community, place, and tradition – themes central to the social sciences.
During the evening, the guests will have the opportunity to experience the historic ambiance of the Cathedral complex while enjoying light refreshments and a short musical performance.
