The Latvian Association of Young Researchers (LJZA), founded in 2005, is a key non-governmental organisation advocating for doctoral students and early-career researchers (ECR) across scientific disciplines in Latvia and within the diaspora. Our core focus areas include science policy and advocacy, professional development and networking, and science communication. We actively collaborate with sectoral organisations, including the Ministry of Education and Science, doctoral schools, and other partners to strengthen the research community.

This session will highlight the role of professional development in empowering ECRs, focusing on training, mentorship, and community-building efforts. It will also present LJZA’s initiatives in academic integrity, science communication and involvement in international representation through young academy networks. Reflections on lessons learned will provide insights into what it takes to strengthen the ECR community and create a supportive environment for career development.

The presentation will be followed by a brief discussion (Q&A) session, allowing conference participants to share experiences from different countries.
